The Single Dating Service Progresses

The world today seems to grow ever more complex as governments topple, as companies become as powerful as some nations, and as technology changes at near-breakneck speeds. The amount of knowledge that is now available to the average person is simply staggering -so much so that it is difficult to decide where to start learning. Yet with all of these changes, good and bad, there are a few things in life -with humans, that remain the same no matter what. One of these facts of life is that people get lonely and wish to have a mate. For those who don't know where to otherwise look for a partner in love and life, there is always the single dating service.

The single dating service is nothing new. It has been around for decades in one shape or another. What has changed are the different ways in which such a service works, as well as the clientele that many such services aim to serve.

Some of the earlier forms of the single dating service began as a "lottery" system in which people would gather at a dance hall and put their names on a slip of paper which in turn went into a large punch bowl, box, hat, or other such vessel. After people at the party/ball had the chance to mingle and dance for awhile, names were picked, thus matching men and women up. The newly formed couples would then share a dance en mass. Afterwards, the opportunity arose to continue dancing, go for a walk, or sit down to eat and talk so that the new couples could get to know each other better.

This single dating service, though of a different name at the time, evolved to a less personal, more long-distance form of meeting people by way of magazines personals. In time this idea gave way to other, often quite simple or even complex and ingenious methods by which people could meet. (One unique service made its mark by having the couples meet up in laundromats with the belief that not only was this novel, but should one of the two not show, there would be more men and women in the Laundromat to get to know.) Nowadays people of different sexual persuasions, ethnicity specific groups, and other services exist to include basically everyone. And so it goes; the evolution in dating spins on with the years. One wonders what tomorrow will bring, and whom, as well.
